Welcome to Waymakers Counseling. Many people decide to seek counseling at critical and defining moments in their lives - and it is always a good choice. If you’re here because you’ve been struggling for a way out of a difficult situation, a stuck place, a set of old patterns, a maze of misguided choices or you’re just looking for an ally or extra support in your life, you’ve come to the right place.

As director of Waymakers Counseling I am here to open a door, to welcome you to a safe and nourishing place where you can receive professional and inspired services for healing, guidance and support. I bring over 30 years of professional education, training and experience to my work.  Enhanced with wisdom from my personal journey, I am here to work together with you.

You talk to yourself more than anyone you know. When that inner dialogue gets stuck in loops of obsessive thinking, worry and negativity it can be deafening. I can help quiet the negative voices, accept and validate your story and teach you to change your inner dialogue into something you want to hear every day.

“Allowing ourselves to heal is allowing ourselves to be messy.” My name is Marisa and I am a Counselor with a passion for providing heart-centered, quality services to individuals. More specifically, I am someone who sparks positivity in people’s lives and brings a level of validation and support. I find that holding ourselves to a standard of grace, not perfection, can make a huge difference in our daily lives.

I completed my Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with a minor in Sociology at Mount Saint Mary College and continued on to obtain a Dual Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling in Mental Health from Hofstra University. I am a member of the Orange County Counselor Association and bring over seven years of counseling experience in different capacities, across a variety of treatment settings including: anxiety, depression, family and relationship issues, stress management, self-image and self-esteem issues, vocational counseling, and health issues.

I am dedicated to establishing a strong and sincere connection with my clients. I aim to provide a safe and supportive environment that empowers individuals to reach their goals. You are allowed to make a big deal about things that feel really big to you – I want to give you the safe place to do so.

Everyone deserves a safe space to work on themselves. Therapy is a great way to dive into yourself on levels you never thought possible.

I obtained my dual Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling in Mental Health (M.S.Ed.) from Hofstra University and I am a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor (CRC). Through schooling, professional and personal experiences, I believe that psychotherapy is such a positive and proactive way to navigate life, whether in large or small scale situations. Psychotherapy has the ability to shine light on what is not always at the forefront and provide the guidance that is not always sought, but needed.

Always remember, "you are not alone." Life is about experiences, a beautiful journey; “no one said it would be easy, but promised it would be worth it.” I am here to support you, validate your feelings, and work together to be the best version of yourself. Take the leap and let me help you help yourself. I leave you with this: “What if this actually works?"
